With OpenDRIVE^® one may perfectly describe the logics of road networks. However, for applications like

vibration simulation

tire simulation

passenger comfort

etc.

a more detailed description of road surfaces - down to almost microscopic levels - is mandatory. OpenDRIVE^® rev. 1.2 already referred to special data structures holding these surface data. Meanwhile, a complementary project - OpenCRG^® - has been established taking care of the provision and evaluation of road surface descriptions.

In excess of all positive features of OpenDRIVE^®, the OpenCRG^® initiative resulted in a complete open source tools-suite for the creation, modification and evaluation of road surfaces. An extensive C-API as well as a MATLAB^® tool-suite are provided free of charge.
